And this morning, I’m laughing because I’m sitting in my office getting ready to make a video and the guys come and start cutting the lawn, mowing the lawn and making all this noise right outside the window, where I’m going make the video; and then, my husband starts talking in his office, next to my office, and I feel myself getting stressed out and anxious because I can’t control what happening and I need to make my video.
Do any of you relate to the feelings of stress when situations happen beyond your control. And sometimes, what we do is go into this mode of trying to want to make things happen, forcing things to happen, and all that does is exacerbate the stress inside. When what is really needed in that moment is some acceptance. There are certain things that we are going to be able to control and there are other things we can’t control.
What we do in those moments, when we are powerless, can really make a big difference on how the rest of our day goes, in terms of how we feel inside, in terms of how we interact with others, and in terms of the outcomes we get.
So, just for this day, when you find yourself in a situation which is creating a lot of stress for you, you can’t control that person, you can’t control the timeline, maybe just use your awareness to realize that you don’t have power in that circumstance – take some deep breaths and then try to focus your attention on something that you actually can get done.
